Most Common Mistakes People Make in Multiple Choice Tests Like the CPC Exam

The AAPC CPC medical coding certification exam is not a walk in the park despite it being an open book test. You have 5 hours and 40 minutes to answer 150 multiple choice questions regarding the correct application of CPT, HCPCS Level II procedure and supply codes and ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes. The passing rate for first-time exam takers are almost less than half. With so much pressure to pass the CPC exam, it is easy to fall for simple and common exam mistakes if you're not careful. These mistakes apply in almost any multiple choice tests, so knowing how to avoid them can definitely help you in your effort to become a certified medical coder.

Multiple choice exams are a fact of life. Whether it is for certification, assessment, research, or even in elections, we all have taken multiple choice tests at some point in our lives. Through experience we learn that there are some common themes to the mistakes that people make in these exams.

Listen or read the instructions carefully

You might know what to expect in the exam, but never disadvantage yourself by skipping the instructions. The CPC exam is a proctored exam so listen carefully while the proctor reads the instructions. If you have any doubts or aren't clear about something, make sure to ask before the examination begins. The worst thing you can do about an instruction that you're not clear about is to assume or put if off until later to correct it.

Misreading the question

The questions are there to test your knowledge and skill, not to trick you or see how clever you are. If a question seems easy or straightforward, then just answer it and move on. Sometimes we fall into the trap of over-thinking a question and start to doubt or second-guess ourselves. Given how pressed for time we are in the CPC exam, it is better to move on rather than waste time trying to get the perfect answer.

Answering a question

Before you even enter the exam hall, make sure you have the correct tools for the job. The AAPC certification exam requires you to use #2 pencils, so make sure you have plenty to work with. Bring along several erasers that work best on exam answer sheets, so you don't waste time fiddling and smudging the answer sheet with a bad eraser. Always follow instructions, so make sure you fill in the answers as shown or illustrated to ensure the machine or person who will be checking your answers does not disqualify you.

Leaving an answer blank

Depending on the test, each question might carry different weight or points. The CPC exam questions are all worth the same, despite the effort to answer them. So you need a strategy for answering questions that keep you moving forward. If you have problem answering a tough question, just move on and come back later when you have the time. Even if you ran out of time, leave a few minutes at the end to make an educated guess for all unanswered questions. You're not penalized on wrong answers so leaving it blank is the worst you can do.

Letting the pressure get to you

You spent a lot of time, money, and effort to prepare for the CPC exam, so understandably there is a lot of pressure riding on it to pass and get certified so you can move on with your life. But if you let it get to you during the exam, mistakes are sure to follow. Learn to control your emotions and relax. Come up with a plan and strategy for time management and answering questions and stick to it. There are plenty of cases where people who are under too much pressure and think too hard about the answers make simple mistakes like:

1. Filling in the wrong answer. 2. Getting the question numbers wrong in the answer sheet. 3. Ignored or forgot about the clock. 4. Filling up the wrong name or details in the form.

Hopefully now that you know some of the most common mistakes you can make in a multiple choice exam like the CPC exam, you can avoid it come exam time. The key is to be prepared and relax so you can focus.

Basics of Startup Business Loans

You have heard and are convinced that the best way to make money is to start your own business. Besides, you have this great business idea that will rake in the money in fistfuls. However, you need more money as capital than you have saved up for this. You have a few options before you. You can either sell equity in your new company to obtain finance or apply for startup business loans.

The Equity Route If you chose the equity route, you need to share control of your business with your investors. This prevents you from having a free hand and slows down decision making - something that can affect the profitability of your enterprise. Moreover, you have to share your profits with the investors.

Startup Business Loans You can also decide to obtain loans to help finance your startup. However, this is easier said than done. Most banks consider startup business loans as high-risk loans. This is because many businesses fail within a few years. Bankers consider small business loans for start ups as personal loans. So if your credit history is good, you have a fair chance of obtaining the loan.

You other option is to obtain the equipment you need on lease from finance companies. Since they retain a lien on the equipment, the interest rates are low and your credit history need not be very good.

Preparedness Whether you choose to obtain a startup business loan or finance from a leasing company, you need to be prepared to answer all their questions. Have the proper documents such as your company's business ID as well as your business plan all ready. Financial documents that you need will include bank statements for the past three years in case yours is an existing business and potential opening day receipts in the case of a new business. Be clear in your mind about the nature of your business and provide convincing reasons why you think that your business will be profitable.

Bad Credit Even if your credit history is not so good, you can obtain credit to run your startup. However, you need to keep in mind that obtaining bad credit startup loans is tougher. You have to go the extra mile to convince potential creditors of your business idea. As banks might not be in favor of lending to you, you need to approach the small business administration for getting credit business loans.

Minority and Women Run Businesses In addition, if you are a member of a minority group or a woman, then you qualify for certain startup business loans. For this, the first step you need to take is get your business certified as owned by a person belonging to a minority group or a woman. Once you complete this step, obtaining a loan for your startup is easy.

The best way to obtain startup business loans is to convince potential creditors of your commitment to the idea and the financial viability of your business plan.

Choosing the right window shutter

Among the many types of window shutters that are available today, louvers are a very popular choice. A louver is a window shutter that has horizontal slats instead of vertical. They start at one and one-quarter inch slats and can go as big as four and a half inches. It is important to remember that the size of the slats in your shutters controls the amount of light that enters the room. Louvers are typically made of polymer or wood. Both of these types of louvers add beauty and elegance to any room.

They are perfect for areas such as bathrooms because of their high resistance to moisture properties and are easier to clean then all other types of window shutters. Vinyl window shutters do not warp and clean up with a damp cloth.

Although window shutters come in all a lot of different colors and styles, they only come in three different styles however each has their own characteristics. These styles are plantation shutters, vertical louver shutters, and café shutters.

Three basic types of louvered shutters

1. Plantation shutters are designed to give your windows proportion and usually start at two and a half inches wide and go up to four and a half inches wide. They can add a decorative unique look to your room.

2. Vertical louver shutters can be found in homes and businesses everywhere. They add an air of sophistication and elegance to any room. Vertical louver shutters start at about one and a quarter inches wide and range up to twelve inches wide. They compliment any room.

Rick Steves' London 2011: Book Review, Europe Behind The Scenes

I liked this travel guide the minute I opened it up because it shows maps of the huge city of London and a map of the London Underground or Tube. While in the awesome city of London, traveling on the London Tube is the way to go if you want to see a lot of the city in not a lot of time. I think Rick Steves' does a very good job explaining how to plan to go to such a great city. The section on money is exact on when it comes to what you should know before you go. Rick's section on the traveling throughout London is really enjoyed reading because I completely agree with him. The London Tube is the best way to go because it is the fastest. However, some of the pages are a little crowded with words and little drawings.

When it comes to his section on sites to see in London, it could have not been written better. I have been to many of the cites he has mentioned and I recommend this book because it would have been a little more interesting if I would have known a little more about them (Westminster Abby, The Palace of Westminster, etc. I like how Rick Steves' gives updated tour prices. I enjoyed reading his section on the Buckingham Palace Area because he has a little map of the roads and walkways. The little drawing of the map is a little hard to read but once you look at it for a little while it is not bad. If there was more color it would be more interesting to look at.

Throughout this travel guide, there are many little drawings of what Rick is talking about in that particular section. Some of the drawings are a little complicated and overcrowded with words and stuff. I think some of the little drawings are too small as well and are a little hard to read on the eyes. I liked the organization of this book but at the same time I got a little bored following it and I saw myself more interested reading a book with more color. At the same time, I like how rick Steves' gives his own personal thoughts and tips on all of the places to go and travel to in London. I agree with most of what he says about the famous places in London. Overall, I liked reading the about the first half of this book and that just about all. All in all, I recommend this travel guide for the very detailed content and words in it and I recommend you look at the DK Eyewitness Travel London book for more detailed and better looking pictures and maps. Create Your Own Blog - 6 Easy Projects to Start Blogging Like a Pro by Tris Hussey

If you want to learn about blogging, "Create Your Own Blog: 6 Easy Projects to Start Blogging Like a Pro" by Tris Hussey is a great resource. For the new blogger, it is fantastic. For the experienced blogger, I bet you'll still learn a thing or two. But it really is aimed at the beginner and maybe intermediate blogger.

The thing I really liked was Hussey provides a lot of detail and information. This book really helped me with the two websites/blogs I just created, and I'm going to use it as a reference if I decide to add some different things like video and audio to my blogs.

Hussey admits that he favors WordPress and the book has more about WordPress than other blogging platforms. With this said, he does mention some of the others such as Blogger or TypePad. Hussey says he's tried all the different blogging platforms and prefers and recommends WordPress, so most of the information refers to this platform for creating a blog, but many concepts and ideas will work if you choose another. This is another thing I like about the book, Hussey shares many resources, and many are free, to help you with what you want to do.

There is a quick introduction about how to use the book, and then a brief history of blogs and how to start your own. There is a basic chapter on installing and setting up your first blog. This is very basic and walks the novice through the setup. Don't know what a plugin or widget is? This chapter will tell you.

Chapter three focuses on writing and creating a conversation, while chapter four is on building community. Chapter five is the first of the 6 projects. The six are: Creating a personal blog; Creating a business blog; Creating a podcast blog; Video blogging; Creating a portfolio blog; Creating your online lifestream; and a bonus chapter on Making money through your blog.

In these chapters, Hussey really does walk you through doing all the things you'll want to do with your blog. He covers the basics, but also how to record, edit and post audio and video, as well as topics like twitter, Cliqset, and ways to pull all your posting and content together. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of information and detail provided. The last chapter, which was a bonus, probably had the least amount of information, but he did cover the basic ways people are making money with their blogs.

I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to start blogging, or for the person who wants to improve their blog presence or take their blogging to the next level with audio or video. Great blogging reference.

True Crime Book - The Devil's Rooming House by M. William Phelps - Female Serial Killer Amy Archer

Windsor, Connecticut owns the legacy of America's deadliest female serial killer, Amy Archer. Between 1908 and 1916, Archer, murdered at least 22 people. True Crime author, M. William Phelps chronicles Archer's life and crimes in The Devil's Rooming House: The True Story of America's Deadliest Female Serial Killer.

Amy and James Archer opened the Archer Home for Elderly People and Chronic Invalids in 1907. Pioneers in the Connecticut home healthcare field, they offered "Life care for $1,000," or weekly rates between $7 and $25 for food, shelter and medical care. Then, patients in asylums, institutions and similar facilities were often referred to as "inmates."

Archer walked the town as a Bible-carrying Christian reinforcing the community's admiration for her caretaker calling. Townspeople called her "Sister Amy." Truth was, Archer had no interest in religion and, as time would tell, had no formal training as a nurse. Inmates at the Archer Home were dying at unprecedented rates. Archer's husband James expired mysteriously in February 1910. Most of Archer's victims succumbed to a deadly elixir of freshly squeezed lemons, warm water, a touch of sugar to liberate the bitterness-and arsenic. Archer killed residents to create faster bed turnover to increase revenues and help her chronic debt challenges. Bodies were removed in the night and swiftly embalmed to prevent investigation.

Michael Gilligan, a respected townsman and twenty years senior to Archer, became smitten with her; and they soon married. He too died an untimely death; allowing Amy to quickly file a claim in Probate Court for his assets.

Carlan Hollister Goslee, was a twenty-two-year-old freelance reporter for the local newspaper.A friend of the Archer's, he was the first to suspect Amy's crimes. Clifton Sherman, editor of the paper knew Goslee's story was big. He displayed utmost professionalism, refraining from printing the expose' until undeniable evidence was discovered, which took years.

May 8 1916 brought Archer's arrest at her home. By now, "Sister Amy" had become the "Witch of Windsor." Her trial began in June 1917; and Archer did not take the stand. The all-male jury (women didn't begin serving jury duty until later that year) convicted her of first-degree murder. She was sentenced to hang at a Connecticut state prison; only to have her fate commuted by the Governor. A second trial found Archer using the insanity plea. Another twist not present in the original proceedings allowed Archer lifelong institutionalization vs. execution.

Phelps not only details Archer's story, but concurrent events that shaped New England's history. The region experienced a record-breaking heat wave the first two weeks of July 1911. To avoid pain, residents slept outside on their mattresses, businesses closed and people drowned. An estimated 2,000 deaths were attributed to the crisis. Reading Phelps's account of the heat wave makes you appreciate today's ubiquitous air conditioning; which wasn't commonplace in the US until after World War II. Imagine too the extra discomfort Archer's inmates must have experienced in addition to subpar care.

Sixteen pages of black and white photos complement Phelps's narrative. They depict key characters, including Archer, the general store where the arsenic was purchased and Archer's would-be hanging room.

In 1941, playwright Joseph Kesselring debuted Arsenic and Old Lace on Broadway; which was based on Archer's story. His literary genius created a comedic account of an historical tragedy. Reading Phelps's conclusion where he chronicles the 66 "reported" Archer Home deaths; you realize Archer's actions were no laughing matter. It's a powerful visual to see her murderous trail on paper.

In March 1962, Archer died at a Connecticut state institution where she'd lived for almost 40 years. Interestingly, the local newspaper ran her obituary on page 6, almost as an afterthought.

Phelps has written several books about serial killers and 8 books covering female murderers. He admits, through time, some details of the Archer case were lost. Still, his nearly six-years of thorough research rewards you with a captivating account of America's deadliest female serial killer.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the practice of using naturally distilled essences of plants to promote the health and well-being of your body, mind, and emotion spirit. These essences, called essential oils, can restore balance and harmony to your body and to your life. Aromatherapy can be experienced through several mediums. Essential Oils are the purest form and most medicinal in their action. Incense is made from the oils and resins of plants.

Sacred Herbs, such as Sage, Cedar, Sandalwood, and Amber resin are known for their cleansing and healing properties and are often used for cleansing negative energy. Essential oil blends are essential oils blended with a carrier oil in order to disperse the healing properties over larger areas of the body and to protect the skin from irritations, burns or sensitive reactions. Aromatherapy is also incorporated in Herbal Candles, in Crystals and Gemstones and in Massage and Body Lotion.

Benefits of Aromatherapy

Some of today's most serious health concerns such as heart disease, anxiety disorders, depression, obesity and immunity disorders, are caused by or are related to stress. Both conventional and non-conventional health professionals agree that lifestyle changes and stress management are essential to improving and maintaining our overall health.Sensory input can stimulate our emotional and physiological responses.

In today's world we are constantly receiving sensory stimuli. On any given day, computer screens, fluorescent light, television images and late-night driving overwork our eyes. Loud machines stimulate our ears, the hum of a computer or refrigerator, television, a blaring radio, telephone conversation, sometimes all in the same room. The types of foods we eat overwork even our taste buds. Likewise, our noses are bombarded with automobile exhaust, cleaning products and toxic chemicals. Unbelievably, these types of stress affect our nervous system and result in physical disorders.

The best way to relieve stresses and bring your body back into balance is through natural therapies such as Aromatherapy. Of the five senses, our sense of smell is the most primitive and most closely associated with our emotions and how our body responds to them. Together with a balanced diet, nutrition, adequate exercise and water, Aromatherapy can help you achieve a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. It can become a part of your daily routine.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are the volatile oils found in the seeds, roots, resins, flowers, trees, stems, bark and fruit of plants. These oils are the life force of the plants and have many beneficial and protective properties. Many oils have antiviral, antibacterial or antifungal properties. Some may also soothe inflammation, relax tense muscles or enhance breathing. Essential oils are being used to treat physical, psychological and energetic imbalances and they have become very popular as interest in self-care and natural products.

In Japan workers exposed to jasmine, lavender and lemon, fragrances seem happier and make fewer keyboard errors. New York medical researchers gave MRI patients vanilla fragrance - a comfort aroma- during their scans. They were feeling significantly less anxious.

In Australia, tea tree oil is used as an effective first aid treatment and used in medical treatments.Blending essential oils is a form of art. The best way to learn is to practice. Choose a few oils that mach your physical and emotional needs and start blending! Many home and beauty products contain harmful chemical that may damage our health when used long-term. You can even make your own natural products using essential oils that are not only fun, but also safer for your health and environment.

Some Applications of Essential Oils

Diffusions - the easiest way to benefit from aromas of essential oils in your home or office. A few drops can also be added to a potpourri of dried flowers.

Mists - uplifting or calming body mist or a refreshing room fragrance.

Massage - diluted with massage oil you can experience the therapeutic benefits of essential oils, which can be made for aches and pains, chest congestion, immune stimulation or simply for relaxation.

Baths - are the most versatile and pleasurable ways to enjoy aromatherapy.

Soaps - indulge yourself with your home made luxurious soap bars or give them as unique gifts.

Body care - benefits for the entire body include weight management, detoxification, improved circulation, enhanced skin care, reduction of the appearance of cellulite.

Facial care, Pedicures, Hair care, Perfumery.

Buying a New Home? Hire a Home Inspector

I am often asked , should I hire an independent home inspector when buying a new home (newly constructed)? The answer is YES! I even claim that is it more important in newly constructed homes than older homes.

Why? Well, large scale homebuilders profits rise in direct proportion to speed of which their homes are completed. Generally speaking, homebuilders in-cent sub-contractors to finish on-time and penalize them when they do not. Corners are cut in an effort to maintain the all important schedule. Unfortunately, the builder cannot watch every sub-contractor at every single stage of the build.

Hiring an independent home inspector will give an extra set of eyes and make sure your interest is represented. They have expertise and will recognize deficiencies. Plus, they are very affordable and pay for themselves many times over.

I had a colleague who bought a newly constructed home just a over year ago. And, at my request , he hired a highly respected home inspector. During the roof inspection, the inspector noticed much of the roof insulation had fallen during a wind storm. He took some pictures and decided to check back a few days later to make sure the insulation was reinstalled. A few days passed when he decided to take another look. By this time, the drywall was now being installed. When he arrived, he noticed several sheets of insulation still laying on the floor. Upon closer inspection, he found that the ceiling still had missing insulation. The trouble is, that the drywall had already been installed over much of the ceiling. Of course, with the pictures in hand, he brought this issue up to the builder and it was rectified. Imagine the added costs to the energy bills had the insulation issue not come to light. Best money my friend ever spent.

Safari in South Africa - Nelson Mandela A Towering Man of the People

On your safari in South Africa, you are sure to come across Nelson Mandela on your travels. He is still to this day a very powerful figure in world politics. Not necessarily these days in the Government itself, but as a symbol of hope over struggle, this man commands a respect not often given to other retired leaders.

Nelson Mandela's name, searched on Google throws up 961,000 references to him in just 81 seconds. People are still fascinated by this man, by his life and his incredible charisma and how this one person could have changed the history of one country so dramatically, to give it the chance of survival in the 21st century.

On visiting Cape Town, one of the many attractions which people queue up to experience is Robben Island. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned on Robben Island during the winter of 1964. Conditions were harsh on the island, where Mandela was forced to spend 18 of his 27 years of incarceration.

Tokyo Sexwale, a former prisoner on the island wrote these eloquent words which sum up the bleakness experienced by everyone who spent time there:

"Deep into the icy waters of the Atlantic

Somewhere around the Cape of Storms

Encaged by rocky beaches all around

Assaulted by piercing winds from the Benguelo

Like an abandoned Ship

Lies the Island of the Damned"

Today, a tour round Robben Island is one of the most rewarding attractions on offer in Cape Town. Whisked by modern ferries across the expanse of water in around half an hour, you get the chance to explore the infamous maximum security prison, interact with ex-political prisoners and get a feel of what it would have been like to live there, just as Mandela did.

A little known fact about the island is it's abundance of marine, bird and wildlife. African penguins have been re-introduced after extinction in the 1800's and have established a breeding colony. 132 different bird species, as well as 23 species of mammals makes this island a haven for those people interested in the environment.

References to Nelson Mandela's life in Cape Town don't stop there. Take the Footsteps to Freedom tour. This city walking tour takes you on a guided stroll through historic Cape Town, telling the story of the city's early Dutch and British settlers, slavery in the Cape, the rise and fall of apartheid and South Africa's new democracy.

What a great way to learn the layout of the city and at the same time really live in the shoes of people who change history.

If you want to take the Nelson Mandela tour one step further to its conclusion in the Western Cape, why not visit the new Mandela House Museum out at Drakenstein. Drakenstein is about an hour and a half drive out of Cape Town, on the road between Paarl and Franschhoek. The drive itself is a thing of beauty, through the winelands to the mountains beyond.

The museum is the old Victor Verster prison in which Mandela spent the last few years of his incarceration before his release in 1990. At the moment, the only way to visit is by prearranged appointment only, but will be developed as a National Heritage site. Let's be real. Fundraising is tough. No matter how good or bad the economy, no matter how wealthy the individual or how big the documentary funding pool for grants, individuals, foundations and organizations do not part with their money easily.

So how do you inspire people to give up their cold hard cash? Ah, the million dollar question!

Here's the secret that inspires giving and gets people to take action.

Ask for the amount you need, state when you need it.. and create urgency!

Filmmakers often have the fantasy that one big wealthy donor or a big foundation will write one big fat check to cover the full budget of the film. Don't get me wrong. It can happen. And it certainly doesn't hurt to ask, however here's the strategy that will most likely work best for you, especially if you are a new filmmaker.

Ask for small, specific amounts of money from a lot of different people and set deadlines for when the money is needed. Even if your documentary funding budget is $250,000, don't ask for that full amount all at once. It's a daunting number that will intimidate most people. Raise money in manageable chunks based on how much you need at that particular moment and how much you think your donor can give. Say you need $5,000 in documentary funding at the very beginning to film your first 10 interviews. Tell people that's what you're doing and that you are raising money for that particular purpose. Build trust and confidence. This is KEY to fundraising. Make sure to report back to your donors when you've raised the money and done what you said you were going to do. They may be willing to give again or at the very least be willing to fundraise on your behalf! Use crowd funding. If you are a first time filmmaker with no track record, you are going to need to embark on a grassroots fundraising campaign among people you know. A great place to start is with online fundraising hubs such as KickStarter or IndieGoGo. It is absolutely essential when fundraising for a documentary to create the best trailer possible. People need to see what you're trying to accomplish and they need to feel inspired to help you. You must convince people you have the passion and the determination to pull off your project. Remember that success follows success. If you can raise the first $5,000 - $10,000, it gives you more credibility (especially with larger donors) when asking for the next $10,000, $20,000 or $50,000. There is no substitute for picking up the phone, pitching your idea and making the ask for a specific amount of money for a specific purpose. Filling out forms for a grant can take days, sometimes weeks and you are competing with who knows how many other projects. A passionate 10-minute personal plea to an individual who is already pre-sold on your documentary idea will often yield better and faster results. As a general rule, cold calling does not work with fundraising. For a brand new contact, where there is no prior relationship or credibility established, send a letter of introduction first (hopefully along with your trailer) and THEN call and follow-up as needed. Do your research and approach people at their level. Before asking someone for money, make sure your project is a natural fit for them and that you have a general idea of what they might be capable of giving. Your college buddy might be able to pitch in $20 whereas your businessman uncle might be able to pitch in $1,000. Last but definitely not least, communicate excitement and urgency. Making a genuine person-to-person ask is one of the hardest things you'll ever do, but it's one of the most powerful and effective ways to get documentary funding.

Sleep Apnea Symptoms and Causes

Sleep apnea is a sleep breathing condition that the afflicted person is rarely aware of. Apnea causes the breathing gaps that occur during sleep. Although there are a lot of telltale signs or sleep apnea symptoms, most of these signs are evident during sleep, making it impossible for the sufferer to detect. More often than not, it is the bed partner that detects the symptoms. Other signs that manifested during daytime are either commonplace to cause alarm or associated with other diseases.

One of the most blatant of these symptoms is the excessive daytime sleepiness or EDS. It is common for apnea patients to feel sleepy while doing daily activities. Severe cases of sleep apnea makes staying awake a challenge. Some patients would fall asleep even without them knowing. This usually happens during classes, during office works, reading, watching TV and even while driving. This is a serious symptom especially when the patient is driving. A lot of fatal road accidents have been attributed to EDS. This symptom is credited to the patient's inability to get restful sleep at night.

Another obvious symptom is snoring. This also often goes without the knowledge of the patient. Restlessness in sleep, gasping and choking for air are also symptoms that are better detected by the patient's bed partner. These symptoms are due to the obstructions in the patient's airways, making normal breathing hard. The breathing gaps results to deprivation of the oxygen supply to the body which makes the heart pump harder. Constant stress to the heart could develop to heart failures and diseases. Obstructive sleep apnea causes include narrow airways, deviated septum, enlarged tongue, tonsils, adenoids and uvula. These are common in people who have small jaw frames, large necks and are obese.

Depression is one symptom that is normally attributed to psychological factors. But this is a common symptom in severe cases. People who are unable to sleep well do not perform well, scholastic or career-wise. This leads to patients being irritable, moody and frustrated. Children often show anger and rage for unknown reasons. The frustration over their inability to rest and perform well drew disappointments that eventually lead to depression. Not all depressions are caused by sleep apnea, but certainly this illness causes depression.

Mild symptoms can easily be addressed with healthier habits and sleep apnea exercises. Constant tongue, lips and mouth exercises could toughen slack airway muscles and tissues preventing them from blocking the airways during sleep. Keeping a good diet, active lifestyle and avoiding vices like smoking, too much alcohol intake and abusive drug use will also help in keeping sleep apnea in check. Maintaining your ideal weight is also important.

For more severe cases, patients can either undergo corrective surgeries to remove the obstructions. They can also opt for the CPAP treatment that involves wearing masks that provide the steady supply of pressurized air. CPAP is not a cure though. The treatment only alleviates breathing and eliminates sleep apnea symptoms. It does not remove the blockages that cause the disorder.
